2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup 1st Round Games Announced

Host Panama opens tournament with game against Greece on October 1st. Defending champion USA takes on Japan one day later.

Panama City, Panama - The International Baseball Federation and the Local Organizing Committee of the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup have announced the match ups for the first round of the tournament. The 1st game will be played on October 1st, with the remainder of the first round of games to be played October 2nd across Panama.

Panama, the host team will open the tournament against Greece, a qualifier from the 2010 European Championship and participant of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The opening game will be held in Rod Carew Stadium, Panama City.

Pool A will also see Canada take on Puerto Rico, The USA take on Japan and Chinese Taipei match-up with the Netherlands.

Pool B will see Cuba battle Australia, a match-up of the 2004 Athens Olympic final, Korea Vs Venezuela, Nicaragua Vs Germany and finally Italy, the 2010 European Champion Vs the Dominican Republic the 2010 Americas Champion.

Tournament coverage will be available through www.ibaf.org and it is expected the full schedule will be announced in the coming days.
