RANKINGS METHODOLOGY

A multiplier is used in awarding points, based on the prestige of the tournament and the quality of the teams involved. The table below is in accordance with the International Baseball schedule approved by the IBAF in July 2012.  Below are the multipliers that will be used beginning in 2012.

IBAF Premier 12 and Baseball World Cups

IBAF Premier 12                                 6x (Winner receives 50 points, multiplied by 6 for a total of 300 points)

World Baseball Classic                    6x 

U21 & U18 Baseball World Cups    2x

U15 & U12 Baseball World Cups    1x

Continental Championships/Qualifiers

Continental Championships, Continental Qualifiers, and all other IBAF-sponsored International Events will receive a multiplier based on the number of top-10 teams from the previous year-end rankings that are entered in the tournament. (See below)

              World Baseball Classic Qualifiers: Pool winner receives 50 points, 2nd – 40 pts, 3rd – 30 pts, 4th – 15 pts

1.00× - Continental Championships/Qualifying Tournaments, where 3 or more competing teams are in the previous year-end top 10

0.75× - Continental Championships/Qualifying Tournaments, where 2 competing teams are in the previous year-end top 10

0.50× - Continental Championships/Qualifying Tournaments, where 1 competing team is in the previous year-end top 10

0.25× - Continental Championships/Qualifying Tournaments, where no competing teams are in the previous year-end top 10

Head-to-head/Friendlies

Ranking Points to be awarded
A win over a top 10-team is worth 20 points
A win over a team from 11th - 20th is worth 10 points
A win over a team from 21st - 30th is worth 5 points
A win over a team outside the top 30 is worth 2 points

NB: Only those games that strictly involve only IBAF National Federation Members' “National Teams” will be recognised, sanctioned and have IBAF rankings implications

Competitions between any IBAF Member's National Team and a Club Teams falls under the jurisdiction of the IBAF and requires IBAF's Sanctioning as per the IBAf Statutes Ch. 6 art. 43 and 44. Such competitions are categorised as “exhibition” games and will not impact the IBAF World Rankings.
